The Byron School District and Byron Park District have recently collaborated in effort to keep the community bike path safe and accessible.
“We appreciate the support from our neighbors at the Park District,” states Byron Superintendent of Schools Buster Barton. “Many school and park district stakeholders rely on the path for access to our facilities. I am glad we were able to make their journey a little smoother and safer.”
The work completed extended from the service road north of Byron Middle School all the way down to Mary Morgan Elementary School. The portion north of the railroad tracks consisted of removing the topcoat, cutting out and filling large cracks in the path, and replacing the topcoat. That work was completed on November 13 & 14, while the portion south of the railroad tracks included crack filling and sealcoating and was completed in late October.
“We know that the bike path allows our kids and many of our patrons easier access to school and to many of our activities,” said Nick Warrner, Executive Director of Byron Park District. “Keeping it safe and accessible is a priority for both the school and the park district.”
