FFA Members Learn About Livestock Handling

The topic of her lecture was common livestock handling mistakes. As many FFA members keep livestock for projects, she focused on things that students could do to improve their Stockmanship. Dr. Grandin is a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University, a designer of livestock handling facilities, and an Autism Advocate. Dr. Grandin has written many books about livestock handing and breeding. Her life is portrayed in the HBO movie “Temple Grandin”, starting Claire Danes, which won seven Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Today, half of the cattle in the United States and Canada are handled in systems that have been designed by Dr. Grandin. She was able to use her unique abilities and passions to design these facilities and methods of care. FFA Member were able to meet Dr. Grandin, ask questions, and purchase books.

Illinois FFA Reporter, Ryan Reeverts, was also in attendance. Ryan is a 2016 graduate of Byron High School.
