Byron High School

Connell Named to All-State Academic Team

Despite competing against hundreds of other nominees across the state, Max was selected as one of the twenty-six student-athletes, 13 male and 13 female, to receive this very impressive designation.  In their recent news release announcing the 2022 All-State Academic Team, IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson stated, “This is a tremendous honor and I hope every student who was nominated takes a great deal of pride in all that they have accomplished.  These students are the embodiment of what it means to take advantage of the entire high school experience.”

All IHSA schools were invited to nominate one female and one male student-athlete by the February deadline.  In order to be nominated for the award, nominees must have participated in at least 2 IHSA sponsored sports and/or activities, maintained a minimum of a 3.5 GPA (out of 4.0), and demonstrated outstanding citizenship.     Ultimately, the All-State Academic Team award recipients are selected through a committee of IHSA principals, representatives of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association, and representatives of the Illinois Activities Directors Association.

“Max is very deserving of being named to the IHSA All-State Academic Team,” stated Jim Kann, Byron CUSD Athletic Director.  “He is a great kid that works hard both inside the classroom and on the athletic playing field.”

Congratulations, Max, on being named to the 2022 Illinois High School Association All-State Academic Team.  We are proud of you!
